Christmas/ New Year’s Q&A With Chelsey James

Do you prefer artificial Christmas trees or real trees? Artificial!

When do you decorate your Christmas tree? Usually about a week before Thanksgiving.

What is your favorite Christmas song? What makes it your favorite? “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” This song just always puts me in the mood to curl up on my couch with a fire! It’s so peaceful and calming and is the song that feels most like Christmas to me.

What is your go-to holiday drink? Vodka and cranberry! That or Bailey’s!

What is your favorite Christmas present that you have ever received? The one that sticks out in my mind the most is when my parents got my brother and I a trampoline when I was about 12. I had wanted one so badly for so many years!

What were your Christmas traditions when you were younger? We have always spent Christmas Eve with my mom’s family, and then the day after Christmas with my dad’s side. We’ve always done a funny gift exchange! For many years, we actually played a trivia game based on my Great Aunt’s Christmas Letter that year. (It was always VERY detailed.)

How have your Christmas celebrations changed since becoming an adult? Well, now that I’m married, I have added some family members and extra Christmas celebrations, which is amazing! I would say I enjoy shopping for others more than I do getting gifts now!

How will Christmas be different at your house this year be different this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic? I probably won’t get to see many of my out of state family members unfortunately.

What is your favorite Christmas memory? One year when I was around 7 years old, my parents got a limo and drove my brother and I around to see all of the Christmas lights in town. I think that was my first time in a limo, so it was pretty memorable for me!

How do you spend the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day? That week for me usually involves eating a lot of leftovers, shopping, and making my list of goals for the next year.

How do you spend New Year’s Eve? In college I would get all dressed up and have a night out with my girlfriends, but as we’ve gotten older we usually stick to staying in and having a game night with our group of friends.

How will the pandemic impact your celebrations? The past few years, we’ve just gotten together with a small group of friends, so I think we will be able to keep that tradition, just socially distanced!

What do you typically eat on New Year’s Day? My mom usually makes something fancy like filet mignon or prime rib. Dad always supplies the shrimp cocktail!

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution for 2021? Have a Top 40 single on country radio!
