Christmas Q&A With Leah Marie Mason

What is your current single and/or album? Miss Us Then

What was a typical Thanksgiving meal look like for your family? Thanksgiving usually consists of my mom, my grandma, and my aunts cooking all morning and all afternoon, making the entire house smell absolutely heavenly. This is all while me, my siblings, my cousins, and my uncles watch football and drink together in the living room, which is one of my favorite parts of the entire day. We don’t get to see each other very often anymore now that we are older, so any time I get to spend with them I appreciate so much. This year was extra special because I got to see my grandparents for the first time in almost two years due to covid, so it was just a really nice day!

What were your Thanksgiving traditions when you were younger? Every single year without fail, no matter where we all ate our thanksgiving meal, my entire extended family would end up at my parents’ house for dessert. We would just sit and drink and gossip until it got late. It was always something I looked forward to the most.

How has your Thanksgiving celebration changed since you have become an adult? Now that I’m older, I haven’t been able to go home for Thanksgiving every year which has been really sad for me. Especially with covid it just hasn’t been smart the past few years, so now that it’s safer we wanted to go all out this year and really make up for the lost time!

What is your favorite Thanksgiving Day memory? Some of my favorite memories from thanksgiving are the stories my dad tells at the dinner table. Anyone whose met my dad can attest to the fact that there really is no one quite like him. He has a big personality, and the way he tells stores will have you in literal tears from laughing so hard.

What are you most thankful for this year? These past few years have made me so grateful for the time I get to be with my family. We don’t get to spend too much time all together these days, so when we do I make sure to really make the most of it!

Do you prefer artificial Christmas trees or real trees? I actually have never had a real Christmas tree my entire life! I have begged my mom for YEARS to get a real tree but my dad is just too much of a clean freak and can’t handle the mess haha.

When do you decorate your Christmas tree? When I was younger me and my two older brothers would always decorate the tree with my mom while we put on a Christmas movie and ate a million snacks, it was so much fun. These days my mom usually has all of the decorating done before I even get home!

What is your favorite Christmas song? What makes it your favorite? Mistletoe by Justin Bieber is just so nostalgic to me I think it will always be a favorite! Never gets old.

What is your go-to holiday drink? Every year I have to have hot chocolate with peppermint coffee creamer.. SO YUMMY!!

What is your favorite Christmas present that you have ever received? I think my favorite gift ever was when I got my first MacBook in 6th grade. I was absolutely obsessed, I would make my own little music videos on iMovie every single night and force my family to watch them 😂

What were your Christmas traditions when you were younger? Every morning on Christmas my mom makes Belgium waffles with a million toppings and it’s something I always look forward to!

How have your Christmas celebrations changed since becoming an adult? Now that I’m 22 and my older brothers are 25 and 26 there’s not as much Christmas spirit going around since we are all in really busy and hectic stages of our lives and careers. That being said, I’m just happy to be able to spend a few days with my family all together 🙂

What is your favorite Christmas memory? My older cousin used to come over every night before Christmas and have a sleepover with me. I looked forward to it every single year and it was a tradition of ours for so long! She has her own kids now and her own Christmas traditions, so sadly we don’t get to do this anymore.

How do you spend the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day? Usually, just spend time with my family and hometown friends. Since i’m in college I’m still on break during this time so it’s nice to have that time off!

How do you spend New Year’s Eve? Usually with my hometown friends, a lot of them go to college nearby so we’ll spend the night in downtown Raleigh. It’s really fun getting to see everyone, especially since I don’t get to see people from high school very often these days!

What do you typically eat on New Year’s Day? Normally some sort of hangover food haha, hash browns, bacon, biscuits, all the grease!!

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution for 2022? Just to keep pushing to be the best version of myself! I’m so proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish this year and I’m excited to keep it going!
