Grace Morrison Tackles Eating Disorders With “Sober”

Judging from the title, some people might assume Grace Morrison’s new single “Sober” is about a person struggling with alcoholism, but the subject matter is another type of addiction. Morrison said she has loved people who have struggled with addiction, specifically eating disorders.

It’s a problem that affects a lot of people in this country. According to the National Eating Disorder Association, someone dies as the direct result of an eating disorder every 52 minutes. When Morrison was asked what she wants listeners to take away from hearing this song, she said she hopes people know they can get sober.

Although Morrison doesn’t suffer from an eating disorder, she has spent a lot of time as a support person for those who have an eating disorder. “I want other support people to know that they are not alone in those feelings,” she said.

“I’ve spent two years trying to convince this person that they are beautiful,” Morrison said. She decided that the way she was going to support them by loving herself more. “Our society teaches us not to love our bodies. I want [this person] to see me trying,” she said. Morrison also said that she tries to encourage people to think twice before giving comments, even compliments, that are body-related.

Morrison knows that being a support person, but she knows that it is important for a support person to have help as well. “I got my own therapist, which is so important when you are a support person,” she said. While being a support person is not always easy, it is very rewarding. She said that one person she is close to made the decision to get help.

Morrison released her “Daughter” album last year. She has also released a cover version of Karma Chameleon,” which is currently her most played song on Spotify.

Morrison will be releasing more new music this year. She said she plans to release a single every other month in 2022 and she will be touring in New Mexico and Arizona. She said that it’s been hard to book things. She’s been doing some house concerts. “People host them once a month. The audience is people who like each other. The artist makes money,” she said Morrison has also performed on livestreams. That’s where she said she performed “Sober” before it was released.
