What was a typical Thanksgiving meal look like for your family? A typical Thanksgiving meal for my family is ham and turkey with all the extra side fixings. My favorite is a sweet potato dish with marshmallows! And lots of Lefse! – A Minnesotan thing 🙂

What were your Thanksgiving traditions when you were younger? For Thanksgiving as a kid we always spent it with my grandparents and most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins! It was loud with everyone trying to talk, and talking-to the same time. With my cousins and I always making up games to play while waiting for our thanksgiving meal!

How has your Thanksgiving celebration changed since you have became an adult? My Thanksgiving celebration as I have gotten older has changed in the amount of people that are there. Its quite a bit smaller as everyone has grown their own families more and more! I always try to make a pumpkin cheesecake for my Dad (that’s his favorite), and still… Lots of Lefse!

How will COVID-19 impact your Thanksgiving celebration this year? Our celebration will be quite a bit different for Thanksgiving this year due to COVID-19. We won’t be getting together with any family, and it will just be the 5 of us that live in our home for our celebration. But happy to be able to keep in contact with the rest of our family through FaceTime, and text!

What is your favorite Thanksgiving Day memory? My favorite Thanksgiving Day Memory has got to be when my cousins and I found a small jewelry box at my Grandparents that was locked for a few years. The whole family became determined to unlock it and find out what was in it. After our meal, my Grandma and two of my cousins brought it to a locksmith to open it but they waited until they got home to reveal what was in it. Inside the box was a Reece’s peanut butter cup, and a Kit-Kat….. Little did they know, I had locked it in there about 5 years prior to ensure that id be able to get candy.

What are you most thankful for this year? I’m thankful for my family, and health.

Do you prefer artificial Christmas trees or real trees? I think that real Christmas trees are the most pretty, but I do not like the chance of any animals being in them. So ill stick to artificial!

When do you decorate your Christmas tree? We typically decorate our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving night.

What is your favorite Christmas song? What makes it your favorite? My favorite Christmas Song is “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. It is such a classic, and I have always enjoyed all the different renditions of it!

What is your go-to holiday drink? Hot Chocolate all the way!

What is your favorite Christmas present that you have ever received? My first guitar in 2008, and of course it was pink!

What were your Christmas traditions when you were younger? We would always hang up our turtle doves on the Christmas tree inspired by the second Home Alone movie. Every Christmas Eve we eat on our Disney Christmas china as well, which I have always loved. Then head off to Christmas Eve Service at our church, everyone holding a candle while singing “Silent Night” will forever be something that I enjoy the most!

How have your Christmas celebrations changed since becoming an adult? My Christmas celebrations have changed since my childhood in a few ways, but we still embrace the holiday and keep up with many of our traditions. Our Christmas celebrations are much more relaxed now than they used to be. We enjoy each others company, and play board games. They’re the most fun when I win 😉

How will Christmas be different at your house this year be different this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic? Christmas will be different this year with no family get togethers to celebrate, but instead big family Zoom calls! I’m not entirely sure what our plans will look like, but I know we will still enjoy the holiday!

What is your favorite Christmas memory? My favorite Christmas memory would be when we spent Christmas in Hawaii in 2008 and in 2015 with my grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and cousins! I love the ocean, and warm weather. So the magic of Christmas and the ocean at the same time?! The. Best. Ever. In 2008 our entire family got a Christmas picture with Santa in Maui. I remember this vividly, and loving every single second of it.

How will the pandemic impact your celebrations? The pandemic will impact our celebrations is ways of not gathering with other family, similar to our other holiday celebrations. As I’m sure most people are planning to no do as well. I think this year has taught me the most to appreciate all the time I’ve been able to spend with my family. The next time I’m able to get together with everyone will be an exciting time for sure! I’m looking forward to it, whenever it may be!

What do you typically eat on New Year’s Day? We always make Shrimp, and make hors d’ oeuvres for our family to have throughout the evening. All celebrations involve food right?!

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution for 2021? My New Years Resolution for 2021 is to spend more time by the ocean, and take in more memories rather than live through my phone screen…. As well as continuing to workout more, and eat healthy. Gotta add that in there!
