Review: Taylor Alexander – Good Old Fashioned Pain

One common complaint that I hear about today’s country music is that some of it doesn’t sound very country. There’s no question that country music is evolving, but it is still nice to occasionally come across an album that is undeniably country. That’s what I found in Taylor Alexander’s new album.

Even before listening to the album, the song titles sound like they could only be country songs. The title track and opening track of the album is called “Good Old Fashioned Pain” is a sign of the good things to come in the following nine tracks. Other song titles like “Real Good At Saying Goodbye” and “Wishing My Life Away” sound equally as country.

Alexander has a good voice. Many people say his sound would fit in the Americana sound and I can’t disagree with that. However, the songs on this album are well-crafted songs that tell a story like the country classics from two or three decades ago did so well. For that reason, I see this as more of a traditional country album. It doesn’t really matter what it’s called because it’s really good music.

I’m addition to the singing and songwriting, I really like the music on the album. The musicians who played on this album are obviously highly skilled. It’s their work that really helps bring the songs to life.
