Michigan-native Madison Olivia said she was heavily influenced by Tanya Tucker, adding that she was also influenced by many other female country artists like Carrie Underwood. Those influences are pretty evident by listening to Madison’s music.
Another one of those influences is her grandmother, who opened for George Jones. Olivia’s interest in music started early, but she made a deal with her parents that she would earn a college degree before persuing her music dreams. She did by studying pre-law at Michigan State University.
After earning her degree, she set her sights on Nashville. “The intent was to go to Nashville, perform on Broadway, do the whole country music thing,” she said.
Now, she’s gone further than that.
She released two singles, “Heartbreak Cowboy” and Downtown Now, ” last year. She also opened for country artists such as Parmalee. Her first release of 2024 is “User” and up-tempo, rocking track may be her best release to date. The self-penned song is addressed to a man who has clearly done her wrong. She doesn’t pull any punches in calling him a user and believes karma will eventually catch up with him.
Not only is the song very well-written, it also features some great musicians. Legendary fiddle player Jenee Fleenor and producer Grady Saxman on drums. People are taking notice of the song. “We’re definitely getting some traction,” she said.
Olivia said her next song will be called “Know Your Name,” revealing that it will be a slower song,” she added.
What’s next – Know your name – slower one… “I’m excited to do more of an acoustic country slow-cut song,
Although she loves living in Nashville, she makes quite a few trips back to her home state of Michigan to perform. She will be doing a midwest tour until the fall. One of her upcoming shows will be a headlining concert at the Capitol Theater in downtown Flint, Michigan.
For anyone who has the opportunity to see Madison Olivia play live, she described her live show as high-energy. Not only does her original songs play into that, but she loves to do covers of artists such as Carrie Underwood, Stevie Nicks and Kassi Ashton.
Like many artists, she feel at home on a stage. “I think my favorite thing to do is play and sing and perform in front of a crowd,” Olivia said.
