Lacy Wolfe released an emotional single called “When They Lay Me Down” on August 23. It is a song that has already touched many of the people who have heard it, but it’s one that she didn’t originally plan to release to the public.
She wrote the song at the beginning of June this year, a week before she went to Nashville to perform several shows during the week of the CMA Music Festival. Wolfe said a friend had recently called her to ask for advice on how to tell her family that she was terminally ill. ” My heart crumbled for her, and I thought, “What would I say?” Then came, ‘When They Lay Me Down’,” she said.
It was such a personal song that Wolfe wasn’t sure she wanted to share it with the world. She did sing the song for a label while in Nashville and they gave it a lot of compliments. She said she kind of tucked her tail and ran home because the song was so personal for her. “To release a song, this in depth, and one I wish my family to remember me by, was a level of vulnerability that was difficult to conquer,” she said.
Wolfe’s husband, Jimmy, thought she should release the song. She played the song on a Facebook Live video in July and it had over 7,000 views within about a week or so. She said she is absolutely floored, so thankful for the response to the song. ” To see so many people loving it, but most of all finding peace in it, let’s me know that I’m doing what I’ve been called to do,” Wolfe said.
In addition to releasing the song on Aug. 23, she also released a music video for the song the same day. The video features home video of her own family. Wolfe said the music video was difficult for her to make. “I had to take many breaks while making it,” Wolfe said. ” Seeing my babies and my husband, who I love so much, and knowing one day, this is what they will have left of me, was enough to rattle any mother’s nerves.”
“When They Lay Me Down is now streaming on services such as Pandora and Spotify. It is available for purchase on digital music retailers such as iTunes and Amazon.

Lacey has the most amazing voice I have ever heard. Her song is above earth shattering it grabs you by the heart and doesn’t let go. After becoming a widow at the age of 42 and losing my high school sweetheart this song could not hit home anymore. I just wish it would have been out sooner so I could have played it at his funeral. I promise this girl is going places!!!!!!!
I love you so much!!!!! Thank you ❤️ I pray for you all the time
