Alannah McCready released her new single “Something Like That” last month and it’s already been played on Spotify over 4,000 times.
McCready said the new single was the first song she wrote with Will Gittens. She said they wanted to write something that was simple and current, but also super relatable. “It just sort of evolved into kind of the expectations that people have in relationships and how it really is just the simple things that you should desire to make you happy. It shouldn’t be that difficult” , she said, adding those “simple things” include being honest, being willing to spend time with her and having good communication with her.
“The response has been amazing, better than I probably could have ever dreamed of,” McCready said. She said that hearing people say its relatable or thanking me for writing it is probably the best compliment I could get on it.
There’s going to be more new music from McCready later this year. She said there will be another single and release the five-song EP later this year. She said she’s really excited to release the EP, which was produced by Gittens’ brother, Sterling.
Mcready said she has loved country music and loved to sing since she was very young. She grew up in Minnesota and would often listen to women of country like Trisha Yearwood. She said she loved music and put on shows for her family, “It just makes me happy,” she said.
McCready said thinks she always knew she wanted music to be her career. “I just necessarily didn’t know how to go about making that happen,” she said. After she became an adult, she was working a corporate job and was living in New York. She said her uncle had friends in Nashville that arranged for her to work with a publisher and producer in Nashville. She went to Nashville and recorded a few songs.
“Back Of A Taxi” was the first song she released and she said she has grown exponentially as a songwriter since that release. She added that she thinks it takes a long time for an artist to truly figure out who they are as an artist and songwriter. “I feel like with my new music and my Something Like That song that I just released, I feel like I’m finally now in the exact lane I need to be that’s authentically me,” she said.
McCready said she is inspired by all of the relationships in her life. She said her family is so supportive. She said she had a large friend group with whom she is really close. “I get a lot of ideas from them,” she said.
Like most musicians, McCready saw her shows cancelled and postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic. She said she has learned that she will never complain about being on the road for three to four weeks at a time. She said she will also not get too busy to go back home for a visit. “I think we are all realizing that we took a lot of things for granted…,” she said.
