Billy Ray Cyrus has been working on a new album, which will be called The SnakeDoctor Circus. A release date is expected to be announced soon and will be released through BMG. It will be his first album since he released Set The Record Straight in 2017.
The SnakeDoctor Circus is being called a concept record and reunites Cyrus with his longtime collaborator and songwriting mentor, Don Von Tress. Von Tress was the writer of Cyrus’ breakout hit “Achy Breaky Heart,” which was released in 1992.
Cyrus wrote “Some Gave All, ” a song about a Vietnam veteran, which became the title track of his debut album. “Achy Breaky Heart” was the first single off the album and became the first platinum-selling country single since “Islands in the Stream, a duet released by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, accomplished the feat in 1983. Cyrus and Von Tress, a two-tour Vietnam veteran, met a few years later and have worked together quite a bit over the years. Their collaboration continues with The SnakeDoctor Circus.
Cyrus said The SnakeDoctor Circus has a lot of meaning and relects all of his influences. “My goal has always been to make music that would touch people’s lives around the world. I’m excited about getting the music to the people,” Cyrus said in a statement.
“The SnakeDoctor Circus is a very personal body of music for Billy Ray. He poured his heart and soul into every note and we are happy to help present it to his passionate and adoring fan base,” Jon Loba, EVP of BBR Music Group, said in a statement.
In addition to his music career, Cyrus is also an accomplished actor. He has appeared in the television series “Doc” and “Still The King,” as well as the Disney series “Hannah Montana” with his daughter Miley Cyrus.
