CMA Fest: John Rich Recognizes D-Day At Redneck Riviera

The 75th anniversary of D-Day (June 6) fell on the first official day of CMA Music Fest. Rich’s bar Redneck Riviera is hosting daily concerts from artists including Rich, Lonestar and Darryl Worley.

I respect Rich a great deal because of his support for the military. I was in the bar on Wednesday when he took the stage and asked for veterans and active duty military to raise their hands.

On June 6, Rich did the same. He said that he and Worley were buying all those who served a shot of Redneck Riviera whiskey. Rich also said some words to recognize the anniversary of D-Day.

Rich said some people “lied about their age to the in the U.S. Army, the Navy, the Air Force. They lied about their age because they wanted to go fight.”

He spoke about his Granny Rich, whose job was to collect scrap metal and take it to the elementary schools so it could be turned into things like bullets. “It was a nationwide effort to beat Hitler and to beat Imperial Japan,” Rich said. The audience responded with applause.

Rich continued, “In this bar, we stand for the National Anthem every time we hear it. There ain’t too many people who will say it anymore because they are afraid somebody’s going to get mad. What about the fact I’m going to get mad if you don’t stand for the National Anthem?”
