Most of us who love Christmas music listen the traditional songs year after year. Every once in a while, an artist will be bold enough to re-imagine a classic. That’s what Jess Kellie Adams did this year. She took “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” and gave it a Green Day-style twist. Adams said the storyline in the song is just chaotic and they felt like it would be good to pair it with Green Day.
The song is was written by Randy Brooks and Adams’ version was produced by Dean Sams, who is a member of country supergroup Lonestar. There was also a festive video released of the song, complete with awesome camera angles and a dancing Rudolph. The music video was directed and co-produced by Bryson Sams of TapeSlate Studios and Dean Sams. The video, which was filmed in Middle Tennessee, is already getting attention from media outlets, such as American Country Network.
Her version of “Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer” isn’t the only Christmas music she’s given her fans. She has released a version of “Silent Night” to her socials and will be releasing an acoustic version of “Please Come Home For Christmas” to her socials. Although it can’t be found on the streaming services, fans can watch the video on her YouTube page. She has also previously released “Under The Mistletoe,” which was written by Dean Sams and his Lonestar bandmate Michael Britt. The song was produced by Sams and is available on various digital service providers. The video for the song is also available on YouTube.
Adams was also a featured artist in the 49th Annual Fantasy Of Lights Christmas Parade in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, which was held on Dec. 6. The parade attracts over 80,000 people annually and is watched by over two million people when it is aired on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Adams will be back in Gatlinburg a couple later this month when she performs at Ole Red on Dec. 13. She will be returning to Ole Red Gatlinburg next year on Feb. 27. It’s Adams’ first time to play at any of the Ole Red locations and she is looking forward to performing there.
Although Adams has some Christmas songs available on various platforms, there is much more to her than Christmas music. She released six other songs in 2024: “Hold On To Me,” “More Than Home,” “Life’s A Dance (Cover),” “I Was,” “This Water,” and “Over It”. The cover of “Life’s A Dance” was a re-imaging of John Michael Montgomery’s 1992 hit. The other five songs were all co-written by Adams.
Her latest non-Christmas song is “Over It,” which she says tells people to “never settle for anything less than what makes you happy.” Adams is already planning to release her single “Grit and Grace,” in 2025. It carries another positive message for listeners. She said it’s about giving grace to others, but also giving it to yourself.
Adams’ music has been produced for a while by Dean Sams, who is also a co-writer on many of her releases. She recalled that she opened for Lonestar in 2022 and met Sams. She must have impressed him with her talent, as he reached out to her and set up a writing session. It went well and they have been working together since then.
Adams’ 2025 tour is already filling up with shows. She will be doing several shows at fairs during the early months of next year. She will be performing at the Florida State Fair in Tampa, Florida between Feb. 6 and Feb. 11. She will be playing at the Osceola County Fair in Kissimmee, Florida on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22, the Sumter County Fair Concert Series in Bushnell, Florida on March 7, and the Citrus County Fair in Inverness, Florida on March 21. She will also be opening for Josh Turner at Great Pocomoke Fair, Pocomoke City, Maryland on April 26.
