Keith Burns, one of the founding members of Trick Pony, will be releasing a new song he wrote with Lisa Guerrero of Inside Edition next month. The song is called “Everybody Loves A Comeback” and a percentage of the sales of the song will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation and the IRE (Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc.) journalism scholarship fund.
Burns explained he met Guerrero a decade ago and someone made a bet with her that she couldn’t write a country song. He said she brought him a ten-page poem and told him that it is was an idea for a song. “Of course, I took it and fiddled with it and a decade later she calls me up and says ‘hey lets get together and finish that song.'”
Guerrero flew into Nashville and brought her camera crew with her for Inside Edition. Burs said they got excited about and wanted to do a segment on it. “We finished writing it and recording it in 24 hours with James Stroud,” Burns said. In addition to being a co-writer on the song, Guerrero also sings on the track along with sister duo Presley and Taylor.
Burns said Guerrero’s original idea of the song was about her ex-husband was a professional baseball pitcher and he was going to make a comeback. “I just kind of took it and turned it into a story about a wife and her husband, who was about to be deployed overseas,” he said. “I took it in that direction and wrapped it up with a nice little bow at the end with a nice little surprise ending when he comes back from being overseas. He reads that letter everyday and that’s what keeps his spirits up while he’s over there fighting for the country. It’s a heartwarming, touching tune.”
Burns said it was a pleasure to write the song with Guerrero. ” It was her idea, but we tweaked it and crafted it and I think we’ve got something pretty cool,” he said, adding that she recently called him with another great idea. “Between her coming up with a great idea and me being able to craft the song, it’s kind of a winning combination,” Burns said.
Burns, Guerrero and Presley and Taylor will perform the song on July 25 at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville at an event to celebrate the release of the song. The presale for the digital single of the song is available beginning on July 26. Tickets for the event are still available. Tickets are $10 for general admission or $25 for a reserved table with meet and greet before the show.
A segment on the song will air on Inside Edition on August 16, the same day the song and the video are officially released. The song will be available on digital music outlets. Burns said the video for the song is very touching. “It’s going to be heartfelt. It’s going to be a cool video for the people overseas and just soldiers in general,” he said.
Burns said they are booking an USO. He said he recently talked to a buddy in Alaska and he is going to go up there with Guerrero and Presley and Taylor to perform the song for the troops. ” I can’t wait to play this particular song for the troops overseas and here at home,” Burns said. He has done a lot of shows for the troops all over the world during his career.
Burns plans to go in the studio with James Stroud later this summer to cut a new EP. Including “Everybody Loves A Comeback,” the EP will probably have seven songs on it. One of the songs, which Burns co-wrote with Doug Johnson, is called “When A Redneck Meets A Longneck” and it is a duet with John Schneider. The song can also be found on Schneider’s forthcoming EP as well. “I’ve been playing that song and I’ve got to tell you that it goes over better than anything that I’ve been doing, even “Pour me,” or “Just What I Do” or anything I’ve had that’s been a hit,” Burns said. ” I’ve got really high expectations for it.”
Burns will tour through the winter and next year. He said he hopes to do USO shows around Christmas and hopes that Guerrero and Presley and Taylor will join him. Guerrero has a busy schedule with Inside Edition, but Burns said she is completely committed to promoting their song.
People can connect with Burns at his Facebook page, keithburnsmusic. He plans to have his website up soon as well.
