Live Music Spotlight: Dallas Moore

I first met Dallas Moore over 20 years ago when I worked for a radio station. I liked his music and he has been one of my favorite outlaw country artists.  I had the chance to watch him play at The Barrel in Springboro, Ohio.

A Dallas Moore show isn’t like a typical show at a local bar. He is a prolific songwriter and most of his show consists of his original songs.  Moore lives in southwestern Ohio and plays many shows in the region.  He is a national touring artist who plays over 300 shows a year and frequently plays venues in Texas, Arizona, and Florida. His songs are played on SiriusXM Outlaw Country.

I like his original songs because they always tell a good story and they are real.  Over the years, I believe his writing has gotten better.   His most recent album is called “Mr. Honky Tonk” and it was produced by Dean Miller, the son of country legend Roger Miller.  One great song on that album is called “Home Is Where The Highway Is,” which Moore wrote about spending much of his time on the road.  The title track is a really fun song that is great live.  He performed both songs last night at The Barrel.

Moore and Miller have teamed up again for Moore’s “Trying To Be A Blessing” album, which is set to be released later this year.  Moore played some songs from the album last night and I’m looking forward to hearing the album its entirety.

Moore didn’t play very many covers, but he did play some.  He did great versions of songs by artists like Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr., and the Charlie Daniels Band.

In addition to being a great songwriter and singer, he has a great band who has been with him for years.
