Live Music Spotlight: Whiskey Myers

Whiskey Myers performed a sold out concert last night at J.D. Legends in Franklin, Ohio. Like artists such as Cody Jinks and Tyler Childers, Whiskey Myers has done a wonderful job over the years of developing a large fan base without a major record label or consistent play on mainstream radio stations. Their music was featured in four episodes of “Yellowstone” starring Kevin Costner last year.

The band consists of Cody Cannon, Cody Tate, John Jeffers, Jeff Hogg, Jamey Gleaves, and Tony Kent. It didn’t take long to understand why they have been able to gain such popularity. They took the stage and performed a high-energy show that the crowd seemed to really enjoy. Cannon is a strong frontman with strong vocals and stage presence. Everyone in the band is talented.

I think their songs are one thing that appeals to their fans. They seem to be heavily influenced by bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, but they have done a good job at creating their own sound. Whiskey Myers is not a band that is easy to label as one specific genre. The band seems to know their audience very well and it seems to be very easy for their audience to relate to their lyrics.

The show was opened by local artist Jake Roberts and Americana band The Vegabonds. Both artists did an excellent job at entertaining the crowd and getting them ready for the headliner.

J.D. Legends is a entertainment complex in Franklin, Ohio. This year alone, national acts such as Cody Jinks, Wynonna, Tracy Lawrence and Jamey Johnson have performed at J.D. Legends and Lee Brice will perform a concert there next month.
