Matt Rogers has recently released a new single called “Burn The Boat,” which he describes as a fun summertime song. Rogers said everybody will be able to relate to the song’s concept of going on vacation and knowing that it’s not going to last forever. In the song, they consider not coming back from vacation.
Rogers said he wrote the song with Angela Marie, who is an artist and songwriter in Nashville. Prior to their writing session, someone had given her an idea for a song called “Burn The Boat” and suggested she should write it. “The content was very heavy,” Rogers said. ” It was about Vikings and how they would burn the boat when they went into battle to signify that they would not retreat and they would not be surrendering.” From there, Rogers took the idea and turned it into the idea of burning the boat in terms of not leaving the island.
The have already made a lyric video for the song. Rogers said they are trying to figure out if they are going to be able to do a video for the song. They have an idea for one, but he said it will end up with a larger budget. He said if they are going to do it, they are going to do it right. That would include having a tropical setting and finding a boat to put on fire.
Rogers is influenced by the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker Band. Modern acts that influence Rodgers include Jason Isbell and Zac Brown. He called Isbell the best songwriter of our generation. The Georgia native said he is a country artist and he doesn’t think he could label his music any other way.
