Thanksgiving Q&A: Trey Calloway

How can people find your music? My music is available at Trey Calloway Music on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, Amazon, YouTube and all music streaming platforms. My website with music, my show schedule and merchandise is https://treycallowaymusic.com/

What is your current single and/or album? My current release is “Christmas With You” which is my first-ever Christmas song. The song’s story recognizes those who are separated from loved ones during the holidays, including those who work selflessly to serve others. I wanted to write a song that reflects the love and magic of Christmas as a reminder to count our blessings. I hope it inspires compassion and togetherness in this season of hope and giving. My recent 9-song album titled “Wanted Man” was released Sept. 27 and is approaching 1.5 million Spotify streams. I think the album has songs for all musical tastes, and I hope all listeners find songs on the album that they relate to and enjoy.

What was a typical Thanksgiving meal look like for your family? For Thanksgiving, our family has turkey, giblet gravy, my step-grandfather’s baked spaghetti, my great grandma’s mac-n-cheese, collard greens, and my aunts’ pecan and pumpkin pie and cherry yum yum.

What were your Thanksgiving traditions when you were younger? Our whole family of about 40 people would have Thanksgiving dinner at my Nena’s (grandma’s) home when I was younger. My step-grandfather was a trained chef, great grandma had the mac-n-cheese recipe, and my aunts brought desserts. Everyone pitched in, and the dinner was always amazing and special.

How has your Thanksgiving celebration changed since you have became an adult? Now that I’m an adult, my parents and I do a lot of the cooking, and I enjoy that tradition. The dinner is at my mom and dad’s home, and we have about 20 people join us for Thanksgiving.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving Day memory? One Thanksgiving my dad’s smoker caught on fire while smoking the turkey. The turkey was burned, but we all ate it anway and enjoyed the day.

What are you most thankful for this year? I’m most thankful for my beautiful new wife who I married on October 12! 2024 has been an amazing year, and I’m so blessed and thankful for so many things.
