Wesley Spangler is looking forward to taking part in the Country Cruising 2019 cruise in November. In addition to Spangler, this year’s cruise will feature over 30 performers including Trace Adkins, Ronnie Milsap, Neal McCoy, Montgomery Gentry, and Little Texas. Past cruises have included stars such as Blake Shelton and Chris Young.
The annual cruise is planned by Flying Dutchman Travel and this year marks Spangler’s third year participating on the cruise. “I love what they do and how they do it. I keep getting asked back, so I guess what I’m doing, they are loving and I appreciate that,” he said.
Spangler said he performs about 200 shows a year. He says the cruise is a different dynamic. He will play three or four full-band shows during the six-day cruise, as well VIP shows, special events and meet and greets. Spangler said he will introduce a brand new song to the audience during this cruise.
One of the perks of going on a Country Cruising cruise is the opportunity to hang out with some of the artists. Spangler said a lot of the artists also bring their families. He said the artists are very personable, but people shouldn’t try to hang out with them when they are with their families and having private time. “There are a lot of opportunities to hang out with them during the cruise,” Spangler said.
The itinerary for this year’s cruise includes Key West, Belize and Cozumel. Spangler is looking forward to Cozumel the most. He said he’s never done a swim with the dolphins encounter. “They have that offered at Cozumel on this cruise. We are going to try to see if we can get that coordinated as well,” Spangler said.
Spangler has released one 12 song CD and one six-song EP. He has a single recorded and he’s going to add three or four my songs. The new EP will be done later this year and should be available before the cruise in November. Some of his favorite songs include “Wings,” a song dedicated to all police officers and “Cover Me,” a song he wrote for his wife.
Spangler said he gave a bunch of his songs to Marc Fortney, who was in the country trio Trailer Choir. “He likes what I was doing and wanted to get behind me,” Spangler said, adding that Fortney loved “Cover Me” said the song needed to be re-imagined. “He re-wrote a lot of it, re-imagined the music and re-recorded the music differently for it,” he said. “Believe me, what he came up with a lot of people are digging. They are really liking the song.”
