Kree Harrison To Release New Album Later This Year

Kree Harrison, who was the runner-up on season 12 of American Idol, is excited to release a new album later this year. “We’re finishing it up right now, just in the process of mixing everything,” she said.

While she has released one other CD, she says this one feels like a debut. She said she is still very proud of her last record, but she feels like she was more present emotionally for the new one and that it sounds more like her than anything she had ever recorded.

Harrison has already released the first single called “I Love The Lie,” a song which was written by Chris Stapleton, Morgane Stapleton and Liz Rose. “I feel very thankful that they allowed me to cut that one,” she said. Harrison said she was pitched the song by a mutual friend who had worked for Rose a long time. “She was like ‘I’d love to hear this from a woman’s perspective’ and we all agreed,” Harrison said.

Most of the songs on the new album were either written or co-written by Harrison. In addition to recording a couple of songs from outside writers, covers of John Lennon’s “Mother” and Skeeter Davis’ “End Of The World” will be included on the album. ” I’ve always wanted to cut them for years, but this record made sense to finally do my spin on them, so I’m really excited about that,” Harrison said.

Harrison said she realized at an early age that she liked the infusion of soul in her music. Otis Redding was a major influence. She also liked Janis Joplin and really traditional country. “I didn’t realize until way later in my 20s that I didn’t have to choose one or the other and that was basically the creation of my sound,” she said. ” I hope I do justice to my influences or pay tribute to them in the best of ways.”

By the time she auditioned for American Idol, she had already done quite a bit of writing and work as a background singer. Harrison said her sister suggested she try out for the show. “When I tried out, it was on a whim,” Harrison said. ” She knew it could be a platform to create a following “It was one of the best experiences of my life,” she added.

Harrison will be touring to support her new album and she said the details for that is still being set up. She said she loves to connect with the people, see their responses and be able to tell her the stories of why they like a certain song the best.
