I saw The Vegabonds open a sold out show for Whiskey Myers at J.D. Legends in Franklin, Ohio. I was immediately impressed by The Vegabonds. Lead singer Daniel Allen has a strong voice that seems to command attention and I enjoy listening to him sing.
The Vegabonds started in 2009. The band also features Richard Forehand, Paul Bruens, Beau Cooper and Bryan Harris. They are veteran musicians and that comes across in their music. All five men contributes to the overall sound of the band and together they create a great sound.
The Vegabonds released their most recent album, “V,” last year. It is the band’s fifth studio album, which is filled with great stories. I appreciated that songs from the album such as “Everything I Need” and “Best I Can” were part of their setlist. “Colorado Evergreen” was another upbeat track that seemed to be a crowd favorite. The setilist also included “Shaky Hands,” which is one of the band’s earliest hits.
In addition to their own songs, The Vegabonds played covers of the Charlie Daniels Band’s “Long Haired Country Boy” and the Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider” in their set.
Local artist Jake Roberts played before The Vegabonds took the stage. His energetic set included covers from artists including Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton and Hank Williams, Jr.
