Live Music Spotlight: Velvet Crush Unplugged

I was saw Velvet Crush Unplugged when they played at The Barrel in Springboro for a special event called Acoustapalooza. It was a great introduction to this talented trio, but I wanted to hear more. I saw them play at The Barrel again tonight.

The trio is made up of David Garwood, Dana Garwood and Dave Hurley. All three of the them are good singers, which allows them to sing a wide range of music. I love seeing groups have male and female vocalists so they can sing songs from male and female artists. Both David Garwood and Hurley are great guitar players and give the trio a great sound.

While this page is called Country Music Views, I enjoy good songs of any genre. I found that I was familiar with the majority of the songs they played. I appreciated that they played different genres, including some country music. David and Dana Garwood did a great version of “You and Tequila,” which was made popular by Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter. I enjoyed their version of Florida-Georgia Line’s “H.O.L.Y.” as well.

One of the highlights of the show was a great version of The Eagles’ classic “Seven Bridges Road,” which showcased their harmonies. Other highlights included The Cranberries’ Zombie,” Uncle Cracker’s “Follow Me” and “Pure Prairie League’s “Aime,” which showcased Dana’s high vocal range.

Hurley played guitar and sang harmonies for most of the night, but I really enjoyed his version of Jimmy Buffet’s “Margaritaville,” which closed their second set of the night.
