Q & A With Jordan Wood

When did you start singing? I started singing and playing guitar at about 11 or 12 when pops got me my first real guitar.

How would you describe your music? I like to joke and say I play both kinds of music country and western. I have a lot of roots in traditional country music but If I had to label it I would just say it’s music about real life.

Who are your musical influences? My family has been one of my biggest influences from my father being an Elvis impersonator as well as Elwood from blues brothers, to my uncle being an established bass player. I also am a huge fan of Waylon, Townes Van Zant and David Allan Coe specifically as songwriters.

What is your favorite concert you have attended? I’m not sure if it was my favorite but my most memorable was seeing Kiss, Ted Nugent and Skid Row when I was in the 6th grade.

What made it memorable? Being a kid, I’d never seen or heard anything like it before and still one of the best stage shows I’ve seen.

What is your favorite place to perform? What do you like about it? I can’t really say I have a favorite. That’s a hard question. We have some of the best venue owners and musicians in this area and it’s not uncommon to see multiple musicians showing up supporting others so it’s hard to pinpoint a favorite.  Anywhere where the crowd is engaged and puts their phones down for a second to watch the act or band I am a fan of.

Other than artists, who has been influential in your decision to become a singer? Again I’d have to say my family, most of them in some way are musically inclined and it was always in the house some form of music or instruments or singing it was always around.  After our third child was born and not being able to afford a sitter during the day, Elizabeth, my wife, gave me the final push to quit my job and just do music full time so I was home during the day and performing at night.

What was the first song you wrote? I believe it was Girl at the Rodeo.

What is your favorite original song? What was the inspiration behind it? That’s another hard question. I’m not a man of favorites but I have a new song called Remember and right now, at this current time, it is one of my favorites. The inspiration came from talking to my friend Nick Giese and discussing toxic people and how sometimes we may be the toxic person that’s in short what the song is about.

Anything else you would like to add? I’m truly blessed and grateful also for the overwhelming support and help I get from the community and grateful for being able to play music for a living. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the friends and family I have around me.

Where can people hear your music?
