Live Music Spotlight: Dallas Moore

I had the opportunity to see Dallas Moore play a full band show at J.D. Legends in Franklin, Ohio last night. Moore lives in southwest Ohio and regularly plays acoustic shows. Last night’s show was one of the the last full band shows in southwest Ohio this year.Moore’s band is filled with some great musicians who have been with him for the majority of his career. Together, the band treated the J.D. Legends crowd to over two hours of great music.

I have known Dallas for probably over 20 years. He is a phenomenal songwriter and a great performer. While he did play quite a few covers last night, most of the setlist consisted of his original songs. Those seem to be the songs that people come to hear. Throughout the show, members were singing and dancing along as the band performed.

Moore’s “Tryin’ To Be A Blessing” album will be released in October and I can’t wait to hear the full album. It is Moore’s second album to be produced by Dean Miller, the son of legendary country star Roger Miller. I appreciated that the band played some of the tracks from the upcoming album. The first single is called “Mama and Daddy,” which was first released in 2007. It is a great song and I love the new recording of the song.

Moore and his wife Jenna celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary earlier this year. He performed a great new song from the album called “I Love You Woman,” which he wrote for his wife. Moore isn’t known for tender love songs, but this is a great one. Anyone who personally knows Moore or follows on him on social media knows how devoted he is to his wife and their young daughter.

That devotion can also be seen in Moore’s new music video for “Everything But You,” which premiered on Billboard’s website last week. Billboard Magazine did a great interview with Moore about the life on the road and how it takes him away from his wife and his daughter. It is another great song that will be on the “Tryin’ To Be A Blessing” album and it is another reflection of Moore’s life in song.

Another standout track on the new album is a cover of “Lodi,” which is one of my favorite Credence Clearwater Revival songs. I remember listening to the CCR version when I was boy. I think this was a great choice of a cover song for Moore to record. Hopefully, it will help introduce this song to a new generation.

Dallas Moore with guitarist Chuck Morpurgo.

In addition to songs from the new album, Moore played some standout tracks from his previous albums such as “Shoot Out The Lights,” “Home Is Where The Highway Is,” “Texas Tornado,” and “Mr. Honky Tonk,” among others.

Moore did play song cover songs from artists such as Hank Williams, Jr. and Billy Joe Shaver. He also recalled DJ Wild Walley of 105.9 The Rebel getting him a slot as an opening act for George Jones when he played at the Hara Arena in the late 1990s. After telling the story, he played “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” which was one of Jones’ biggest hits and one of the most iconic songs in country music history.

I think one thing that really sets Moore apart for some other acts is his personality. He’s positive and he knows what his fans want to hear. He writes his own songs and there is honesty in his lyrics. Throughout his career, he’s found a lot of success. He plays around 300 shows a year all across the country. His songs have been played on SiriusXM radio.

I love the fact that Moore still is the one who maintains his social media accounts. When he sends me a message, I know that it’s him behind the keyboard. I believe that extra effort to communicate with fans and the honesty in his songwriting are two things that have contributed to his success and longevity in the music over the years.

Strungover played a great set before Dallas Moore took the stage. Lead singer Ryan Lakes has a great voice and I really enjoyed watching the band perform. I loved the fact that the band has a fiddle player, which allowed them to do great fiddle songs like “Callin’ Baton Rouge” and “The Devil Went Down To Georgia,” the later of which was used to close their set. I would love to see the band play a longer set.

Matt Matheney also opened the show. He has a good voice and had a good selection of songs. I had never seen him perform before and I would like to see play a longer set.
